Together we will explore your abilities, strengths, struggles, and pains to facilitate a process of healing, hope, and meeting your full potential. Although I have been a therapist for over 25 years, my journey to become a therapist began in 6th grade when I read my first Sigmund Freud book. No worries, my approach has evolved since 6th grade. I am guided by best practices and practical approaches that are unique and individualized.
I appreciate the influence of positive psychology, the use of humor, and gratitude along with ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy/trauma approach) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT, EMDR, and other psychological approaches. When life is challenging, what I have learned from my education, ongoing training, and clinical experience is there are some easy, effective right now changes that can be made to improve mental health, relationships, happiness, and overall well-being. Other transformative change comes from a more intensive, deeper exploration that unfolds over time with a collaborative, nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship. I find the most transformative and long-term change comes from a focus on this combined approach of right now strategies and deeper exploration. I enjoy and have experience in providing support to individuals with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, stress management, and professional burnout. I particularly enjoy and have experience supporting other helping professionals in all these areas.

Abbie Edman, MSE, Therapist

My journey to being a therapist began working in residential mental health treatment. Following my experience in residential treatment, I began doing crisis work with youth and Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services before moving into full-time therapy. My education has given me a well-rounded background that has been integral in my work as a therapist. Before obtaining my master’s degree in clinical counseling, I received three bachelor’s degrees focusing on criminal justice (victimology emphasis), psychology, writing, and English.
I have had the privilege of supporting individuals of all ages with anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, stress, phase of life transitions, and many more. While using approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT, EMDR, mindfulness, and strengths-based perspectives, I am passionate about supporting you in developing strategies to cope with life challenges and foster positive change to enhance your life.
You can expect a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel truly heard, understood, and accepted with me. I hope to empower you with your inner resources to build resiliency and lead a purposeful, balanced life. A core value I hold is the importance of self-care. Although self-care looks different for everyone, it can be foundational to living a fulfilling life. I will support you in developing practices to meet your individual needs, whether that’s through mindfulness, physical activity, creative outlets, or other forms of self-nourishment. I firmly believe that therapy should be a collaborative process, where exploration of your unique experiences, strengths, and goals is at the forefront of our work together.
In my free time, I love to read, write, listen to music, spend time outdoors and spend time with family and friends. I also have four rescue animals that keep me busy and bring so much joy to my life!

One of my favorite authors, Brené Brown, says, “Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” Taking the step towards therapy takes courage. I will support you in facing both the challenges and successes in your life. Let’s be brave together and emphasize the light that is already within you.
I am committed to helping adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, work stress, and a variety of other life challenges.
My therapeutic approaches are client-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and other evidence-based approaches. The therapy journey is yours and I am here to guide you towards the best version of yourself. Together we will explore and build on your strengths.
I am here to support your therapy journey to unlock your potential, redirect self-limiting thoughts and behaviors, process painful emotions and memories, and exercise healthy coping. We are so resilient as humans, and with the right therapy approach and a compassionate helping hand, we can find our way through our emotions and difficult experiences.
